AUREA opens its new innovation lab
Six hundred square metres of open workshop, with digital fabrication, an audiovisual studio and workspace for student projects from both levels.

The new Innovation Centre opened on 27 August, after eleven months of building work, and is the first space on campus shared by upper secondary and higher education with no split in the timetable.
The building takes up six hundred square metres on the north side of the campus and is organised in four zones: digital fabrication, with 3D printing and laser cutting; an audiovisual studio with a photography set and a sound booth; an electronics lab; and an open floor of work space with tables you can rearrange.
The operating rule is deliberately simple: any student can book any zone, whatever their level or their programme, as long as they have done the safety induction for the equipment they are going to use.
“We wanted a place where an eleventh-grader building a drone runs into a Digital Design student printing a prototype,” says the rector, Elena Villalta. “You cannot plan that meeting from an office. You make it possible with a room.”
The centre is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 20:00 and Saturdays from 8:00 to 14:00. Bookings are made through the student portal.
